Prompt - Late

Late.  She was never late.  She should have been the one sitting down.  That way she would not be feeling like she was going to swoon to the floor.  Swoon?  Where did that come from?  It came from seeing him here.  Why is he here?  How could he know she would be here?  Her heart started pounding.  That was the table she was looking for, the party she was joining.  Why was he here?

It was seldom they ran into each other at home.  When they did, family and friends seemed to help them keep it light and somewhat easy.  It seemed there was still a tension between them that hadn't dissipated after half a decade.  She was out of the country when he had graduated and had missed his party.

Oh, he still looked good.  He had matured into an even better looking man.  She knew he would.  His genes were good.  Unconsciously, she licked her lips.  The memory of his kisses still remained.  There had not been many since and none had given her the same shivers his did.

Somebody pushed her from behind.  She shook her head to help clear it.  Her hostess happened to look up then and waved her over.

"I have someone here I'd like you to meet."

"I see."  She turned, willing herself to remain calm.  Looking into his dark eyes, she saw what she remembered from her freshman year of college.  Her smile increased as she took his hand.  "What a wonderful surprise."

He returned her smile.  "I think it's a perfectly perfect surprise."  His hug filled her with warmth.  There were things to be said.  Words to be spoken.  But this felt right.
