Lies

 

There was no denying it. The proof was right in front of him. He got up from the desk, running his fingers through his dark hair. How many people knew? Was he the only one in the family who didn't? He shook his head. No, they could never have kept a secret this large.

 

He looked on the wall where his diplomas and his license were displayed. Right next to that was a picture of him and his folks at his high school graduation. He was between them, an arm around each, with his father looking at the photographer while his mother was kissing his cheek. What happened? What was the truth? Why tell a lie of this magnitude? Three decades. Three decades they kept this lie.

 

He looked across at his colleague who had sat patiently, waiting for him to work this through. "Joe," Brian took off his white medical coat, "let's go get drunk."
