Hockey

 

 

The Red Hawks and the Flames game was highly anticipated in the town of Sleepyside. It consisted of the two local Bantam leagues, both coached by the same young man. In the stands sat two young women, one with the roundness of a second-term pregnancy and the other manning a video camera, capturing the game action.

 

Since they shared the coach, the assistant coach for the Flames would have normally taken the lead. But as he had broken his leg the week before while shoveling snow, a substitute had been brought in. Which was the reason that both young women were there watching.

 

Trixie grinned at Diana while she kept an eye on the action, taking care that she didn't knock the tripod over again. “Brian wanted me to send him a video of this and I'll bet I have to make more copies for Dan and the Wheelers.”

 

Diana smiled. “Good thing you're lab was cancelled this week so you could be here.”

 

The ref was a substitute also, but had experience refereeing at occasional scrimmages. So far, the score was 3-3 and there was only a few minutes left. Suddenly, both sides of the stands stood, one thinking a goal had gone in, the other thinking it was blocked. When the ref pointed at the net with an open hand, the blond substitute came out of his box ranting. The referee skated towards him as the coach from the other team came over. The ref pointed at the latecomer and pointed him back to his side and then proceeded to beat the first coach over the head with her cap, her golden hair swinging as she chased him back to his bench.

 

Diana and Trixie were howling in their seats. Trixie looked at Diana grinning. “I think I can sell this as a Bob-White video and make a mint!” She turned back to watch as Mart's team started laughing with the Red Wings coach, as Dan tried to pull Honey off his friend.
