Greatest Fear and Question (2 snippets)

He reached for the stack of files on his desk.  Grabbing the dictation recorder, he settled into his chair and read the first file.  His notes were thorough and unreadable but for himself.  He smiled, recalling the two year old patient and his sweet smile as he told Brian why he had put the marble in his nose.  He hadn't cried until his mom got upset with him.  Brian did a quick report on the visit and picked up the next file.

Normally, he would not see this patient.  But since Loyola was on her honeymoon and Dr. Ferris was not feeling well, Brian stopped and winced as he thought about the doctor he so admired, today he had been the doctor to oversee this obstetric appointment.  Since he knew this was just a check up, he had called in the midwife they worked with and let her do most of the appointment.  Not unless it was an emergency did he plan on seeing his sister quite so intimately.  And that was fine with her also.  She had another five months to go so he figured he was safe until Loyola came back in two weeks.  He scanned the side where it listed many pertinent details about his sister and her husband.  Good.  There shouldn't be any RH issues with their blood.  Her numbers are good.  Everything looks fine.   Finished with the dictation on her file, he turned it over and went to the next one.

Half an hour later, he finished with all the dictation.  He took out the mini-cassette and picked up the files to drop them on his staff's filing stack.  He walked back towards his office looking at the charts on the wall.  As he walked, he recognized a nagging at the back of his mind.  He took his white coat off and pulled on his jacket, trying to figure out the mystery of why he was off kilter.  Mystery...Trixie?  What?  Wait a minute.

He closed his door shut and went back to the stack of dictated files.  He pulled out his sister's chart and looked again at the front page.  A....That can't be.  He went to the files on the wall.  B - He pulled out four files.  Opening each to the front page, he looked at each file.  A A A A.  Taking all five files back to his office, he sat heavily at the large desk his folks had purchased for him when he came to Sleepyside.  He grabbed his keys from his pocket and opened the bottom drawer.  He pulled out his file.  B  stared him in the face.  How could that be?  It's not possible.  Yet Brian knew now that what he had always feared was true.  He did not belong.  He was not a Belden.
